The History of Golf in Redditch

This information is taken from the book "Golf in Redditch", written by Redditch Golf Club member Dan Plim.

As is chronicled in Dan's book, there has been a golf club in Redditch since 1891. The Ipsley Golf Club existed from 1891-1908. As Dan writes "catering for the upper echelons of local society", the course of Ipsley Golf Club occupied land where the Arrow Valley Lake is now.

The Redditch and Walkwood Golf Club, 1905-1913 had its course only a few hundred yards from the present RGC course in what is now Morton Stanley Park.

The original Redditch Golf Club was founded in 1913 based at what is now the course of Redditch Municipal Pitcher Oak Golf Club. The building of the Bromsgrove Highway intruded on the course reducing it to its present 9 holes form and Redditch Golf Club relocated to Callow Hill in November 1972.

The Callow Hill course was designed by Frank Pennik and is recognised as one of the 'Finest courses in Worcestershire'.
